In the framework of the SmartWB project “Curricula Innovation in Climate-Smart Urban Development Based on Green and Energy Efficiency with the Non-Academic Sector”, funded by the European Union, Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar has successfully modernized four courses and enrichen them by usage of new equipment.
As a part of the modernized course Materials for energy efficient and sustainable buildings, students used the equipment for planning and testing the innovative materials with recycled waste glass, plastic and marble powder. The laboratory mill was used to prepare the samples, while the climatic chamber was used to evaluate the long-term behavior of the materials.
In the modernized course Durability, resilience and maintenance of structures students worked on a real-life case-study on all the steps in the building’s condition diagnosis: inspections, construction and material testing and evaluations. Students used the covermeter to evaluate the construction.
Students showed high interest in new equipment and gained new skills that can help them in the future. Working with this new equipment, students’ awareness of recycled materials use has increased, which is one of the most important goals of the SmartWB project.
