New Urban Development Concept of the City of Vienna

The City of Vienna published a new urban development concept “Der Wien-Plan – Stadtentwicklungsplan 2035”. A central topic of this plan is global climate change and its impacts on Vienna. Like no other urban development plan before it, the Vienna Plan focuses on climate protection, climate adaptation, and the circular economy.

The Vienna Plan’s key points (1) Urban development: no new urban expansion areas necessary (2) Green spaces: at least 50% of the city’s area will remain green (3) Infrastructure: clear guidelines for schools, kindergartens, public and healthcare facilities (4) Mobility: overarching cycle path network and definition of public transport connections.
