The University of Bihać is a public higher education institution situated in the city of Bihać, in the northwestern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although it was officially established on July 28, 1997, the roots of academic development in the region reach back to the 1970s, when departments of mechanical engineering and economics were first founded. These early educational efforts laid the foundation for what would eventually become a modern and multidisciplinary university.
Today, the University comprises seven faculties and offers more than thirty accredited study programs across all three academic cycles—bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral studies. These programs span a wide range of fields, from biotechnical and technical sciences to economics, law, pedagogy, Islamic education, and health studies. All curricula are aligned with the Bologna Process, which ensures international recognition of degrees and compatibility with the European Higher Education Area.
With an annual enrollment of approximately 500 new students and over 6,000 graduates to date, the University continues to grow as a regional center of knowledge. Around 130 professors, assistants, and researchers are actively engaged in teaching, mentorship, and research, offering students a supportive and academically stimulating environment.
In addition to its educational mission, the University of Bihać plays a vital role in the scientific, cultural, and economic development of the Una-Sana Canton and the broader region. It is strongly committed to international cooperation and regularly participates in academic exchange and research initiatives, particularly through Erasmus+ and bilateral partnerships. Both students and staff benefit from opportunities to study, teach, or conduct research abroad, while the University itself frequently hosts international conferences, workshops, and other scholarly events.
Located near the city center, the University’s campus provides students with a pleasant, accessible, and well-equipped space for learning and personal growth. Facilities include modern classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and sports amenities, while student life is enhanced through clubs, cultural events, and active student organizations that foster engagement, collaboration, and creativity.
With its dedication to academic excellence, international collaboration, and community development, the University of Bihać continues to shape future professionals and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of science, education, and society.
